Annual CRS Spring Conference - March 23, 2012
It’s that time of year again! The annual CRS Spring Conference will be held on March 23, 2012 at the Marriott Indianapolis North. The Marriot is a beautiful luxury hotel located in the heart of keystone at the crossing. It is also conveniently located on the bus line and offers free parking. We have many exciting activities planned this year and some really interesting and informative speakers on the agenda. Our keynote speaker this year is Larry Fricks, Director of Appalachian Consulting Group & Deputy Director of SAMHSA/HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions. Larry is a person in recovery and his story and life’s work to support the recovery of others was published by HarperCollins in the New York Time’s best-selling book Strong at the Broken Places by Richard M. Cohen and was featured on the Today Show in 2008. Larry will be discussing “Peer Workforce Moving into Whole Health / Workforce Development”.
Other interesting topics that will be covered during the conference are “Compassion Fatigue” and “Job Skills Training & Resume Building”. There will also be an informative CRS Panel held on “Consumer Operated Businesses”.
Early Bird CRS Registration begins today for a fee of $35.00 and ends on February 10, 2012. After February 10, 2012, the CRS conference fee will be $50.00. Non-CRSs may also register for the conference for a fee of $60.00.
As a reminder, this is an excellent opportunity to network and earn continuing education credits. CRSs attending the CRS Conference will earn five (Category 1) CEUs!
We encourage those of you who will be traveling from distant communities to set up car pools to share travel costs. Persons interested in driving can contact this office. We will assist by letting people know in your area that the carpool is available.

Continuing Education Credits (CEU's) & Recertification
As part of the Indiana Certified Recovery Specialist Training Program’s annual Continuing Education requirements, each CRS must complete a total of 14 hours of continuing education credits each year to maintain certification.
ASPIN offers a variety of options to obtain continuing education credits including monthly connect calls, three webinars, and a annual conference which allows CRSs to come together and network, while also staying informed of what’s new in the field of practice.
CRSs may also obtain up to 4 hours of continuing education credits by attending outside clinical training programs, conferences or webinars. CRSs are encouraged to participate in outside trainings and provide feedback that generates discussion during the monthly connect calls.
ASPIN will also be offering several online trainings via the website, some for free and some for a charge of $20.00, as an additional opportunity to complete continuing education credits.
It is important to understand that all CRSs must complete a minimum of 14 continuing education credits yearly to maintain certification. If these credits are not earned, certification will expire with no opportunity to re-certify.
Please follow the link Annual Continuing Education and Recertification Requirements to learn more about how you can earn your 14 annual CEUs.
Indiana CRS Training Documentation Form must be completed by an authorized Instructor or Administrator when obtaining Category 2 CEUs.

Certified Recovery Specialist Program Overview
In 2009, with funding from the Division of Mental Health and Addiction, under the Family and Social Services Administration, Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana, Inc. (ASPIN) became the designated agency to develop and administer the Certified Recovery Specialist Program for the State of Indiana. With support from additional statewide partners such as NAMI, the S.E.C.T. Center, MHAI, and the Key Consumer Organization.
Certified Recovery Specialists provide consumers with role models, personal recovery strategies, and support for instilling hope and motivation to address the challenges of stigma regarding treatment. Certified Recovery Specialist services result in fewer numbers of consumers returning to inpatient treatment and increase the numbers of consumers completing educational and employment goals.
Upon completion of the five day training and passing a final examination, a participant will be certified as a Recovery Specialist and eligible for employment at an Indiana Community Mental Health Center, a state operated facility, and/or other human service provider. CRSs would be an asset to any organization that provides services to persons with mental illness.
